New Zealand beat India by 22-runs in the 2nd ODI and sealed the series 2-0 with just one ODI left. New Zealand defended 273 runs successfully by restricting India to 251 in 48.3 overs.
This is the 3rd consecutive ODI win for the Kiwis. NZ debutant Kyle Jamieson’s all-round performance proved fatal for the New Zealand victory. He was also awarded the Man of The Match award.
Kohli’s post match presentation
In the post match presentation, Kohli said “I’m impressed with how we finished. We let things slip away from 197/8 to 270 plus in the first half but came back strongly with the second half of our batting. We were in trouble with the bat, but Saini and Jadeja played really well, as did Shreyas.”
“ODIs aren’t too relevant this year compared to Tests and T20s, but to find people who can play that way under pressure is a big revelation for us and a big plus.” he added.
With just 273 on board, India were expected to chase down the total with their strong batting line-up. But most of the top order collapsed except Shreyas Iyer who scored a fighting 50. With no hope of victory, Navdeep Saini and Ravindra Jadeja gave India A moment of hope. But the loss of wickets cost India the losing even with enough balls left.
India enjoyed the whitewash in the T20 series. Now, New Zealand will expect a whitewash in the ODI series to compensate their T20 loss. Will they win the final ODI or will India win a convincing victory?
